OVERVIEW

Fittings that hold the line under pressure.

LEOCO Carbon Steel Fittings are designed for demanding industrial piping applications, providing reliable connections for pipe routing, flow distribution, diameter reduction and system closure. The range includes Carbon Steel Elbows, Concentric and Eccentric Reducers, Equal and Reducing Tees, and End Caps, available in butt-weld configurations to suit different project requirements.

Manufactured and specified according to recognized ASTM and ASME standards, these carbon steel fittings can be selected in various sizes, wall thicknesses and schedules according to the connected piping system. They are widely used across oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, chemical, water, construction and general industrial applications, with material, dimensions, testing and documentation specified according to project requirements.

DETAILS

About this range.

LEOCO Carbon Steel Fittings are engineered for reliable joining, direction change, flow distribution and diameter transition in demanding piping systems. Our range includes Carbon Steel Concentric Reducers, Eccentric Reducers, 45° Elbows, 90° Elbows, Equal Tees, Reducing Tees and End Caps, with configurations selected according to project requirements, piping dimensions and applicable standards.

For pressure piping applications, wrought carbon steel fittings are commonly specified to ASTM A234/A234M, while dimensional requirements for factory-made butt-welding fittings are covered by ASME B16.9. ASTM A234 covers wrought carbon steel and alloy steel fittings of seamless or welded construction for moderate- and elevated-temperature service and includes requirements such as tensile, hardness and hydrostatic testing.

Carbon Steel Fittings Range

LEOCO’s carbon steel butt weld fittings range includes:

  • Carbon Steel Concentric Reducer – for reducing pipe size while maintaining a common centerline.
  • Carbon Steel Eccentric Reducer – for reducing pipe diameter while keeping one side of the fitting aligned; commonly selected where drainage, pump suction or space considerations are important.
  • Carbon Steel Elbow 45 Degree – provides a 45° change in piping direction.
  • Carbon Steel Elbow 90 Degree – provides a 90° directional change and is available in different radius configurations.
  • Carbon Steel Equal Tee – provides a branch connection of the same nominal diameter as the run.
  • Carbon Steel Reducing Tee – provides a branch connection smaller than the main run.
  • Carbon Steel End Cap – closes the end of a pipe or piping section.

ASME identifies B16.9 as the standard for factory-made wrought butt-welding fittings and B16.25 for preparation of butt-welding ends, including welding bevels and related end preparation.

Pressure Ratings

Carbon steel butt-weld fittings do not normally have one universal pressure class such as Class 150 or Class 300. Their allowable pressure is determined as part of the complete piping system based on the pipe wall thickness, material, temperature, design code and operating conditions.

For this reason, a project specification should identify the material grade, NPS, wall thickness/schedule, design temperature, design pressure and applicable piping code rather than assigning a generic pressure rating to the fitting itself.

Material & Grade

For standard carbon steel butt-welding fittings, ASTM A234/A234M Grade WPB is a widely specified material grade. ASTM A234/A234M covers wrought carbon steel and alloy steel fittings used in pressure piping and pressure-vessel fabrication for moderate and elevated temperature service.

Depending on the project specification, material documentation can include:

  • Heat number / traceability
  • Material Test Certificate (MTC)
  • Chemical composition
  • Mechanical properties
  • Heat treatment records where applicable
  • Dimensional inspection
  • Visual inspection
  • Hardness testing where specified
  • Hydrostatic testing where specified
  • Non-destructive examination according to purchase-order requirements

Size & Wall Thickness

Carbon steel fittings are selected according to the nominal pipe size (NPS) and required wall thickness. ASME B16.9 provides dimensional requirements for factory-made wrought butt-welding fittings; actual commercial availability can vary by fitting type, size, material and schedule.

Common project schedules include:

Sch 10 | Sch 20 | Sch 30 | STD | Sch 40 | Sch 60 | XS | Sch 80 | Sch 100 | Sch 120 | Sch 140 | Sch 160 | XXS

The applicable schedule should always be confirmed against the connected pipe and project specification rather than assuming every schedule is available in every fitting size.

Carbon Steel Fitting Applications

Carbon steel butt-weld fittings are used across a wide range of piping applications, including:

  • Oil & gas
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Refineries
  • Chemical processing
  • Power generation
  • Water transmission
  • Industrial utilities
  • General process piping
  • Mechanical piping systems
  • Construction and infrastructure
  • Energy and engineering projects

Their butt-weld connection provides a continuous welded joint and is commonly selected where strength, dimensional compatibility and system integrity are important considerations.

Why Choose Carbon Steel Butt Weld Fittings?

  • Strong welded connections
  • Wide range of configurations
  • Suitable for high-pressure piping designs when properly engineered
  • Available in multiple wall thicknesses
  • Compatible with carbon steel pipe systems
  • Concentric and eccentric diameter transitions
  • 45° and 90° directional changes
  • Equal and reducing branch connections
  • Standards-based dimensional control
  • Suitable for demanding industrial applications

Standards & Compliance

Depending on the product and project specification, LEOCO carbon steel fittings can be specified around internationally recognized standards including:

  • ASTM A234/A234M – Wrought carbon steel and alloy steel pipe fittings
  • ASME B16.9 – Factory-made wrought butt-welding fittings
  • ASME B16.25 – Butt-welding ends
  • ASME B31.3 – Process piping, where applicable
  • ASME B31.4 / B31.8 – Pipeline applications, where applicable
  • MSS standards – Where specifically required by the project

The exact standard combination should be confirmed against the project’s engineering specification and purchase order.

Carbon Steel Fittings for Project Requirements

Choosing the correct carbon steel fitting involves more than selecting an elbow, tee or reducer. Pipe size, schedule, material grade, fitting dimensions, end preparation, design pressure, operating temperature and applicable piping code all need to be considered together.

Whether the requirement is for a carbon steel 90 degree elbow, 45 degree elbow, concentric reducer, eccentric reducer, equal tee, reducing tee or carbon steel end cap, the fitting specification should correspond with the connected piping and project requirements.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked.

Common questions about this range. Need something specific? Ask our team.

ASTM A234/A234M WPB is one of the commonly specified carbon steel grades for wrought pressure-piping fittings.
ASME B16.9 covers factory-made wrought butt-welding fitting dimensions and related requirements.
A concentric reducer maintains a common centerline between the two pipe ends, while an eccentric reducer offsets the centerline so one side remains aligned.
Yes. Fittings can be specified for different wall thickness requirements, including common schedules such as Sch 40, Sch 80, Sch 160 and other applicable schedules, subject to size and specification.
Butt-weld fittings are generally not assigned a universal flange-style pressure class. Pressure capability is determined by the complete piping design, including material, thickness, temperature and applicable design code.
